Week 3

Well done to all those competitors in the triathlon on Friday. That cycle leg was hard work!

This week we have swimming sports on Wednesday and goal setting interviews Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday.

This week we will start some addition and subtraction strategies and continue describing settings in writing. We will start the reading activities on the LEARNZ field trip in preparation. All students should have selected appropriate reading books from the library this week and may take home. Please make sure they come back to school each day as they will have independent reading time in class.

Homework this week is Basic Facts maths sheets and to comment with as much information on what you learnt about the picture below.

  6. I learnt that a cumic is a 2 metere cube and 1 cumic wieghs about 1 ton and also that under a cliff there's a wee gap so if you get washed away and get trapped underneath one and rocks start to crumble, you're smashed W.A.M

  7. i learnt that to cross a river you need to have the strongest person at the front and hold hands then walk through the river also that rocks make eddies so you can go behind them and the current is not strong. trees that are in the water are called strainers, rapids can wash you away and somtimes theres erosion and it can cause rocks to fall and somtimes hit you

  8. I learnt how to cross a river. To cross a river you need to have the strongest at the front because they can hold up someone and they won't collapse under the water. I learnt that fallen trees make strainers and that if you go behind some rocks it will be easy to cross because the current would be less, these are called eddies I learnt about erosion.Erosion is when the water eats away at the dirt and it eventually would come down.

  9. hey Mr Cooke,
I learnt with Mr Hooker that erosion is where the water eats away at the dirt and anything else causing over hangs which eventually come down. Strainers are an object that lets water go through but you can't get through things like trees big rocks but rocks aren't really a problem. When crossing a river the strongest should be at the front to break all the current and pull up people who fall .Rocks create eddies, an eddie is a space that gets blocked off by rocks and other things and then the water comes and fills in the space creating an eddie. In rivers there are rapids , fast flowing water, strong currents, and maybe some animals. A method Mr Hooker showed us to know how fast water you put a stick and then run walk, run, fast walk, jog or any other speed. He said that if he has to jog that the water is going to fast. He also told us about cumics, a cumic is a block of water that weighs 1 ton, that's as much as one elephant or a 1 ton truck. WOW!!!! This afternoon I went to the farm and made a dam in the stream it made some eddies. It was really cool to see how eddies are formed. SAM

  10. I learnt that trees can make eddies in the river and you can get trapped in them. When the water eats away at the cliff it is called erosion. Sometimes the rapids in a river can suck you under and you can drown. WB

  11. To show how fast the river is going you look at the white water and how narrow the river is.
